Backlit Salt Tile Wall Cost: Tiles, LEDs and Labor

By Natural Salt Co.

A backlit salt tile wall usually costs approx. $27 to $29 per sq ft for the pink salt tiles alone at our current pack prices, plus adhesive, LED lighting and installation. For example, a 4 x 6 ft wall needs about 119 tiles (with a 10% allowance) at about $684, and a complete 4 x 6 ft kit with the tile option, adhesive and LED string lights is listed at approx. $630. Labor and electrical work are local costs, and this guide shows typical US planning ranges for them.

What goes into the cost of a backlit salt tile wall

Most backlit projects have five cost lines. The first two come from our store. The rest depend on your site and your installer.

  • Salt tiles (store data): our 8 x 4 x 1 inch pink Himalayan salt tiles, about 4.5 per sq ft.
  • Adhesive (store data): our clear adhesive lists coverage of 30 to 40 salt bricks per tube. We use the same figure as a planning estimate for tiles.
  • LED lighting: included in our wall kits, or bought separately if you order loose tiles.
  • Installation labor (typical US estimate): setting the tiles on a prepared backing.
  • Electrical and backing work (typical US estimate): a power source for the LEDs, a dimmer if you want one, and any framing or spacer for the light cavity.

Salt tile cost: the math

Each tile face is 8 x 4 inches, or 32 sq in. One sq ft is 144 sq in, so 144 / 32 = 4.5 tiles per sq ft. We add 10% for cuts and breakage, then round up. Here is what our pink tile packs cost per tile today:

Pink tile packApprox. priceApprox. per tileApprox. per sq ft (4.5 tiles)
Pack of 20approx. $117about $5.84about $26.30
Pack of 70approx. $400about $5.71about $25.71
Pack of 100approx. $572about $5.72about $25.74
Pack of 200approx. $1,071about $5.35about $24.10
Pack of 500approx. $2,500about $5.00about $22.50

Prices checked October 14, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.

Larger packs are not always lower per tile. The 100-pack works out slightly higher per tile than the 70-pack, so compare the real numbers before you order. The per sq ft cost of a finished wall comes out higher than this table because of the 10% allowance and because pack sizes rarely match your exact count.

Cost by wall size: loose tiles plus adhesive

These examples use the lowest-cost mix of our pink tile packs we found for each count. Adhesive counts use 30 to 40 pieces per tube.

LED lighting cost: kit vs loose tiles

Lighting is where loose tiles and kits differ most. Our pink salt wall kits offer an 8 x 4 x 1 inch tile option and list adhesive and LED lighting in the box. Here is how the listed kit contents compare with buying the same salt and adhesive loose, based on store data:

Kit (tile option)Listed contentsApprox. kit priceSame salt + adhesive bought loose
3 x 3 ft (9 sq ft)41 pieces, 2 adhesive tubes, 30 ft LED string lightsapprox. $300approx. $294 (41 tiles about $240 + 2 tubes about $54), no LEDs
4 x 6 ft (24 sq ft)about 100 to 108 pieces, 4 adhesive tubes, 30 ft warm-white LED string lightsapprox. $630approx. $680 to $727 (100 to 108 tiles plus 4 tubes), no LEDs
5 x 8 ft (40 sq ft)180 pieces, 6 adhesive tubes, warm-white LED lightingapprox. $1,130approx. $1,145 (180 tiles about $985 + 6 tubes about $160), no LEDs

At these prices, the 4 x 6 ft and 5 x 8 ft kits cost less than the same salt and adhesive bought loose, and the LEDs come with them. The 3 x 3 ft kit costs about $6 more than loose salt and adhesive, and that difference covers the LED string lights. Kit counts match the wall area without a cut allowance, so you may want a small tile pack as a spare. See each kit page, such as the 4 x 6 ft pink salt wall kit, for exact contents.

If you buy loose tiles, price LED strips, a power supply and a dimmer locally. Our guide to LED lighting options for salt walls explains backlighting, edge lighting and dimming choices.

Labor and electrical: typical US estimates

We do not set these prices, and they vary a lot by city, wall condition and installer. Treat the figures below as planning ranges, not quotes.

  • Tile setting labor: a 2026 US tile cost guide from Rubi lists general tile labor at about $5 to $22 per sq ft, mostly for standard floor tile. A backlit salt wall may cost more per sq ft because of the light cavity, careful handling and a small work area. Some installers may also have a minimum job charge.
  • Electrician: a 2026 cost guide from Inch Calculator gives a national average of about $50 to $100 per hour, and about $150 to $350 for a new receptacle. A plug-in LED setup near an existing outlet may need little or no electrical work, while a hardwired dimmer or a new outlet behind the wall usually calls for a licensed electrician.
  • Backing and framing: a spacer frame or recessed cavity for the lights is priced by your contractor. Our salt wall planning guide covers backing options.
Wall sizeApprox. labor at $5 to $22 per sq ft (estimate)
3 x 3 ft (9 sq ft)approx. $45 to $198
4 x 6 ft (24 sq ft)approx. $120 to $528
5 x 8 ft (40 sq ft)approx. $200 to $880

These labor figures are the published range multiplied by wall area. They do not include electrical work, framing or minimum charges.

The loose salt and adhesive in this example come to approx. $764 to $792 before lighting. The 4 x 6 ft kit at approx. $630 covers salt, adhesive and LED string lights, so it can lower the materials line if its layout fits your wall. Shipping varies by order; see the product page or ask us for a quote.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Size the wall to a kit if one matches your space, since the larger kits include LEDs and cost less than the same salt and adhesive bought loose.
  • Check pack mixes: a mix of packs can cost less than rounding up to the next large pack.
  • Plan the lighting early: moving an outlet after the tiles go up adds labor. See how to plan a backlit Himalayan salt wall.
  • Compare tiles and bricks: our salt wall materials include bricks and kits if you want a deeper wall.

For installation steps, read how to install Himalayan salt tiles, and follow your adhesive and LED manufacturer instructions or work with a qualified installer and electrician.
