The measurements to verify

Salt tile dimensions can vary by product. Before calculating quantity, select the exact item and verify the measurements shown on that product page.

• Face length and width: used to understand nominal surface coverage and layout.
• Thickness: affects edges, transitions, recesses, support, and installation planning.
• Unit weight: informs handling and support planning when a verified value is available.
• Package quantity and package weight: used for ordering, delivery, storage, and handling.
• Edge, finish, and natural variation: can affect the visual joint and cutting plan.

Measure the finished area

Measure each rectangular section separately, then document openings, returns, corners, borders, penetrations, and irregular areas. Keep all measurements in one unit. A scaled sketch is more reliable than a single width-by-height note.

• Record the full width and height of every surface section.
• Mark doors, windows, outlets, fixtures, edges, and areas that will use another finish.
• Decide with the installer how openings and partial pieces will be counted.
• For curved or irregular surfaces, obtain a project-specific layout rather than using a simple rectangular estimate.

Estimate from the selected product

For a simple preliminary estimate, compare the net planned surface area with the nominal face area of the exact selected tile. This is only a starting point because joints, cuts, orientation, pattern, breakage, natural variation, and future replacement needs affect the order quantity.

• Do not mix dimensions from one item with the package quantity of another.
• Round to complete pieces and complete sellable packages.
• Have the installer set the project allowance after the layout is defined.
• Recheck the estimate if the product, orientation, pattern, or wall dimensions change.

Important: This guide intentionally does not publish one universal waste percentage. The appropriate allowance depends on the actual layout, product, site, handling, and installer.

A safer calculation workflow

• Choose the exact tile and save its product link.
• Create a dimensioned surface drawing.
• Calculate nominal pieces for each section using that product’s face dimensions.
• Add pieces required by the approved edge, corner, joint, and pattern plan.
• Apply the installer’s allowance and convert the result to complete packages.
• Confirm current stock, package data, freight access, and dry storage before checkout.
