Salt Brick Wall Planning Checklist: 9 Things to Confirm Before You Order

Before you order a salt brick wall, confirm nine things: the wall type, the load the wall can carry, the brick count, the pack mix, the adhesive count, the lighting and power plan, the room conditions, the tools for cutting, and delivery and staging. A Natural Salt Co. 8 x 4 x 2 inch pink brick covers 32 sq in of face, so you need about 4.5 bricks per sq ft, and the salt alone adds about 24.75 lb per sq ft. At prices checked October 14, 2026, pink bricks run approx. $25 to $30 per sq ft depending on the pack size you buy.
Use this salt brick wall checklist as a planning sheet. Store data comes from the Natural Salt Co. product pages. Anything about structure, wiring or labor is a general planning note, and a qualified contractor or engineer should confirm it for your building.
The salt brick wall checklist at a glance
- Wall type chosen: adhered to a backing, or stacked on a base.
- Wall load checked by a qualified professional for about 24.75 lb of salt per sq ft, plus adhesive and backing.
- Wall area measured and brick count worked out at about 4.5 bricks per sq ft, plus a cut allowance.
- Pack mix priced from the current product pages.
- Adhesive counted at about 30 to 40 bricks per tube.
- Lighting method and power location decided before the first row goes up.
- Room checked for steam, splashes and humidity.
- Cutting tools and a work area planned.
- Delivery access and a dry staging area ready.
1. Choose the wall type
An adhered salt brick wall bonds the bricks to a prepared backing, such as a framed wall or panel. A stacked wall rests the rows on a base, with each row carrying the weight of the rows above it. The choice changes your load path, your adhesive count and how you plan for lighting. Our guide to stacked vs adhered salt brick walls compares the two in detail.
Write down the finished height and width at this stage. Every number later in this checklist starts from that area.
2. Check that the wall can carry the weight
This is the step that is easiest to skip and hardest to fix later. Each brick weighs about 5.5 lb according to the product page, and 4.5 bricks cover a square foot, so the salt adds about 24.75 lb per sq ft before adhesive, backing or framing.
| Wall size | Area | Bricks (no allowance) | Approx. salt weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 6 ft | 24 sq ft | 108 | about 594 lb |
| 6 x 8 ft | 48 sq ft | 216 | about 1,188 lb |
| 8 x 8 ft | 64 sq ft | 288 | about 1,584 lb |
| 8 x 10 ft | 80 sq ft | 360 | about 1,980 lb |
Counts assume tight joints with no gaps. Ask a structural engineer or experienced contractor to confirm the wall, floor and base can carry this load, and follow the adhesive and backing manufacturer's instructions. Our salt brick wall weight guide shows the full math.
3. Count the bricks and add an allowance
Multiply the wall area in square feet by 4.5. A 6 x 8 ft wall is 48 sq ft, so it needs 216 bricks. Many installers add about 10% for cuts, chipped edges and color matching. That is a planning recommendation, not a store rule. With 10% added, 216 bricks becomes about 238 bricks.
If your wall has outlets, windows, edges or a frame, plan for more cuts and consider a larger allowance. The salt wall planning guide walks through layout and measuring.
4. Price the pack mix
Natural Salt Co. sells the 8 x 4 x 2 inch pink bricks as singles and in packs. Per-brick cost does not fall in a straight line as packs get bigger, so compare the numbers before you choose.
| Pack (store data) | Approx. price | Approx. per brick | Approx. per sq ft (4.5 bricks) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single brick | $6.60 | $6.60 | $29.70 |
| Pack of 20 | $130 | $6.50 | $29.25 |
| Pack of 30 | $185 | $6.17 | $27.75 |
| Pack of 50 | $287 | $5.74 | $25.83 |
| Pack of 70 | $387 | $5.53 | $24.88 |
| Pack of 100 | $577 | $5.77 | $25.97 |
Prices checked October 14, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.
At these prices the pack of 70 has the lowest cost per brick, at about $5.53, and the pack of 100 costs slightly more per brick, at about $5.77. You can compare every pack and buy salt bricks on the collection page.
The store also lists sauna brick kits from 50 to 500 bricks that include adhesive. They work out to approx. $5.74 to $6.66 per brick with the adhesive included. Check each kit page for the number of tubes it contains.
5. Count the adhesive

The adhesive product page lists coverage of about 30 to 40 salt bricks per tube. For 238 bricks, that is about 6 tubes at the high end of coverage and about 8 tubes at the low end. Plan for the low end if your backing is uneven or you are new to salt.
Adhesive pack prices also do not drop evenly. At prices checked October 14, 2026, the pack of 3 works out to about $26.66 per tube, while the pack of 10 is about $28.10 per tube. For 8 tubes, two packs of 3 plus one pack of 2 cost approx. $214. See the pink salt adhesive page for current pack sizes, and follow the instructions on the product for surface prep and cure time.
6. Decide on lighting and power first
Backlighting, edge lighting and front washing each need a different setup behind or around the wall. Decide the method, the power location and the switch or dimmer position before any bricks go up. Changes later can mean removing finished rows. A licensed electrician should handle any new wiring, and LED products should be installed to their manufacturer's instructions. Our salt wall LED lighting guide compares the options.
7. Check the room conditions
Salt reacts to moisture. Keep the wall away from showers, steam rooms, sinks and splash zones, and plan for steady humidity. The brick product page lists the bricks as suitable for sauna temperatures up to 200°F, and suggests wiping with a dry microfiber cloth weekly or as needed and drying any moisture promptly in humid spaces.
8. Plan tools and cutting

Have a level, a measuring tape, a caulking gun, gloves, eye protection and a way to cut salt. Salt is usually cut dry with a diamond blade and full support under the brick. Check the first row with a level, since small errors grow as the rows go up. See how to cut salt bricks and tiles for the steps.
9. Prepare for delivery and staging
A pack of 100 bricks weighs about 550 lb according to the product page, so a 238-brick order is well over half a ton of salt. Confirm delivery access, who is unloading, and a dry indoor space to stage the packs. Delivery options are confirmed at checkout, and the store notes that wholesale orders include freight coordination.
Worked example: a 6 x 8 ft salt brick wall
Here is the checklist applied to one wall. Store prices were checked October 14, 2026. The 10% allowance is a planning recommendation.
| Item | Quantity | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|
| Wall area | 48 sq ft | n/a |
| Bricks with about 10% allowance | 238 | n/a |
| Bricks: 3 packs of 70, 1 pack of 20, 8 singles | 238 bricks | $1,344 |
| Adhesive: 6 to 8 tubes (packs of 3 and 2) | 6 to 8 tubes | $160 to $214 |
| Materials total (store data) | n/a | $1,504 to $1,558 |
| Installed salt weight (216 bricks on the wall) | about 1,188 lb | n/a |
Prices checked October 14, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.
By our calculation, 3 packs of 70, 1 pack of 20 and 8 single bricks is the lowest-cost way to reach 238 bricks from the listed brick packs, at approx. $1,344. Three packs of 70 plus a pack of 30 gives 240 bricks for about $1,346, which buys 2 spare bricks for about $2 more. Framing, LED lighting, electrical work, labor and shipping are not included. Those costs vary by location and project, so get local quotes for them.
Common planning gaps to avoid
- Ordering the exact brick count with no allowance for cuts.
- Choosing lighting after the backing is closed in.
- Skipping the load check on a wall or floor.
- Placing the wall near a shower, sink or steam source.
- Assuming the largest pack is the lowest cost per brick.
