Himalayan Salt Bricks for Bars and Lounges: Placement, Lighting and Cost

A Himalayan salt brick wall suits a bar or lounge when it sits on a dry wall guests see from their seats: the back-bar wall above the counter, a lounge seating wall or the entry. Keep it away from sinks, ice wells and dish areas. In our pink 8 x 4 x 2 inch bricks, the salt for an 8 x 4 ft back-bar panel costs approx. $870, and a 12 x 8 ft full wall about $2,425, at prices checked October 12, 2026.
This guide covers where a salt brick bar wall fits, where to skip it, how to light and protect it, and what the bricks and adhesive cost for three common sizes.
Where Salt Bricks Work in a Bar or Lounge
Salt bricks are a decorative finish. They tend to look strongest where light can hit or pass through them and where hands, glasses and water rarely reach. Good spots to consider:
- Back-bar wall above the counter. The wall behind the bartender is what most guests face. A panel that starts above the counter and backsplash keeps the salt out of the splash zone.
- Lounge seating wall. A wall behind booths or sofas gives a warm backdrop for a slower, low-light room.
- Entry or host stand. A smaller backlit panel near the door sets the tone before guests sit down.
- Private room or VIP lounge. A full wall can define a separate area without adding more furniture.
- Bottle display niche. Salt bricks can frame a shelf area, as long as the shelving is supported by the structure behind it and not by the salt.

Where to Skip a Salt Wall in a Bar
Salt dissolves in water and can absorb moisture from humid air, so a few bar areas are a poor fit:
- Directly behind or beside bar sinks, glass washers, ice wells or soda guns, where splashes happen every shift.
- Next to ice machines, steam from dishwashers or kitchen pass-throughs.
- Outdoor patios and rooftop bars exposed to rain or high humidity.
- Low walls at elbow or knee height where guests lean, bump stools or rest wet glasses.
If the only open wall is near a wet area, one option is to start the salt above a non-salt backsplash or behind a glass or acrylic guard. A local contractor can advise on what suits your space and local codes.
Salt Bricks vs Tiles for a Bar Wall
Our bricks measure 8 x 4 x 2 inches. Tiles share the same 8 x 4 inch face but are 1 inch thick. For a bar, bricks give a deeper, more solid look. They also add more weight: each brick weighs approx. 5.5 lb per the product listing, or about 24.75 lb of salt per sq ft at 4.5 bricks per sq ft. If your wall cannot carry that load, tiles are the lighter choice. Our guide to salt brick wall weight walks through the load math.
You can browse salt bricks for walls in pack sizes from a single brick to 1,000 bricks.
Lighting a Salt Brick Bar Wall
Most bars run dim, so lighting does a lot of the work. Common approaches:
- Backlighting: LED strips mounted in a cavity behind the bricks so the light passes through the salt. This gives the strongest glow but needs a cavity and access planned before installation.
- Edge grazing: a strip at the top or bottom of the wall that washes light across the brick face and shows texture.
- Dimmable warm white: a dimmer lets staff lower the wall for late service and raise it for cleaning.
Plan wiring, drivers and access panels with a licensed electrician and follow the LED manufacturer's specifications. Our LED lighting options for salt walls article compares these methods in more detail.

Protecting the Wall During Service
- Keep the bottom row above counter height, or add a ledge or drink rail so glasses do not rest against the salt.
- Clean with a dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid spraying cleaners or water on the bricks.
- Keep the room's humidity steady with normal HVAC. Damp air can make the surface sweat.
- Order a few extra bricks for repairs. A chipped brick is easier to swap when you have matching stock.
How Many Salt Bricks a Bar Wall Needs
One brick face is 8 x 4 inches, or 32 sq in. A square foot is 144 sq in, so 144 / 32 = 4.5 bricks per sq ft. We add 10% for cuts and breakage, then round up.
| Wall size | Area | Bricks (4.5 per sq ft) | With 10% allowance | Approx. salt weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 x 4 ft back-bar panel | 32 sq ft | 144 | 159 | about 875 lb |
| 10 x 8 ft back-bar wall | 80 sq ft | 360 | 396 | about 2,178 lb |
| 12 x 8 ft lounge wall | 96 sq ft | 432 | 476 | about 2,618 lb |
Weights use the listed approx. 5.5 lb per brick times the bricks ordered, before adhesive.

Salt Brick Bar Wall Cost
The table below uses Natural Salt Co. store prices for pink 8 x 4 x 2 inch bricks. For each wall we searched every pack combination and listed the lowest-cost mix that covers the bricks needed.
| Wall size | Bricks needed | Lowest-cost pack mix | Approx. brick cost | Approx. per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 x 4 ft | 159 | 150 + 4 + 4 + 1 | approx. $870 | approx. $27 |
| 10 x 8 ft | 396 | one 400-pack | approx. $2,000 | approx. $25 |
| 12 x 8 ft | 476 | 400 + 70 + 4 + 2 | approx. $2,425 | approx. $25 |
Prices checked October 12, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.
Per brick, store packs ranged from about $6.60 for a single brick to about $5.00 in the 400 and 500-packs and about $4.85 in the 1,000-pack on the check date. Larger is not always lower per brick: the 100-pack (about $5.77 per brick) cost more per brick than the 70-pack (about $5.53), so comparing the actual numbers helps.
Adhesive
Our adhesive product page states that one tube covers 30 to 40 salt bricks. That gives a planning range of tubes per wall:
| Wall size | Tubes (40 to 30 bricks each) | Example pack mix | Approx. adhesive cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 x 4 ft | 4 to 6 | 2 + 2 or 3 + 3 | approx. $108 to $160 |
| 10 x 8 ft | 10 to 14 | 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 | approx. $268 to $374 |
| 12 x 8 ft | 12 to 16 | four 3-packs or four 3-packs + two 2-packs | approx. $320 to $428 |
Prices checked October 12, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.

Complete Kit Option
For a 5 x 8 ft wall, our ready-to-install 5 x 8 ft kit lists 180 bricks (8 x 4 x 2 in), 6 adhesive tubes and warm-white LED lighting for 40 sq ft, at approx. $1,230 for the 2-inch brick version, or roughly $31 per sq ft. Buying the same 180 bricks (150 + 30 packs, approx. $998) and 6 tubes (two 3-packs, approx. $160) loose comes to about $1,158, so the kit costs roughly $72 more and includes the LED lighting. The kit has no cut allowance, so you may want a few extra bricks. See the 5 x 8 ft salt wall kit page for current details.
Costs to Price Locally
These are not Natural Salt Co. prices. They vary widely by city, building and project, so we suggest getting local quotes:
- Installation labor, ideally from a contractor who has worked with stone or salt.
- Framing, backing board or a support base for the bottom row.
- LED strips, drivers and dimmers if you are not using a kit, plus an electrician.
- Freight, liftgate delivery and staging for large orders.
- Permits or inspections, if your local authority requires them for commercial interiors.
Planning Tips for Bar Owners and Designers
- Measure the finished wall area, not the room, and subtract doors, shelves and screens.
- Decide on backlighting before ordering, since it affects framing and cavity depth.
- Confirm the wall can carry the load. A structural engineer or contractor can check this for full walls.
- Plan the install for a closed period so adhesive can cure as directed on the product.
- Cutting salt creates dust; our guide on cutting salt bricks and tiles covers the basics.

How many salt bricks does an 8 x 4 ft bar wall need?
About 144 bricks at 4.5 per sq ft, or 159 with a 10% allowance for cuts and breakage, based on our 8 x 4 x 2 inch bricks.
How much do salt bricks cost for a bar wall?
At prices checked October 12, 2026, pink bricks for an 8 x 4 ft panel cost approx. $870, a 10 x 8 ft wall about $2,000 and a 12 x 8 ft wall about $2,425, before adhesive, lighting, labor and freight. Prices are approximate and can change.
How much adhesive does a salt brick bar wall need?
Our adhesive page states one tube covers 30 to 40 bricks, so an 8 x 4 ft wall with 159 bricks needs about 4 to 6 tubes, approx. $108 to $160 at prices checked October 12, 2026.
Can a salt wall go behind the bar sink?
It is not a good fit. Splashes from sinks, ice wells and soda guns can wear the salt. If that is the only wall, one option is to start the salt above a non-salt backsplash or behind a glass or acrylic guard, with advice from a local contractor.
Is there a ready-to-install kit for a bar wall?
Yes. Our 5 x 8 ft kit lists 180 bricks, 6 adhesive tubes and warm-white LED lighting for 40 sq ft at approx. $1,230 for the 2-inch brick version (prices checked October 12, 2026). It has no cut allowance, so a few extra bricks may help.
How do I clean a salt brick wall in a bar?
Use a dry or barely damp cloth and avoid spraying water or cleaners on the bricks. A ledge or drink rail helps keep wet glasses off the salt.
