Himalayan Salt Brick Sizes and Formats: Dimensions, Coverage and Pack Options

Natural Salt Co. sells Himalayan pink salt bricks in one size: 8 x 4 x 2 inches, about 5.5 lb each, per the product listings. Laid with the 8 x 4 inch face showing, that works out to 4.5 bricks per square foot. The bricks come as single pieces, loose packs of 20 to 100, and sauna kits of 50 to 500 bricks with pink salt adhesive. Salt is a natural stone, so each brick can vary a little in size, color and veining. If your layout depends on exact sizes, measure a few bricks when they arrive before you cut or mark the wall. Our salt tile size guide covers how sizes translate into wall layouts.

Brick Formats: Flat vs On Edge

The same 8 x 4 x 2 inch brick can be set two common ways. This changes the brick count, the wall depth and the load.

These rows are geometry based on the listed size and weight, with tight joints and no adhesive. For an adhered accent wall, a flat layout uses half the bricks and half the load of an on-edge layout. Setting bricks on edge suits self-supporting stacked builds where a thicker wall is the goal, and it roughly doubles both cost and weight per square foot. For any wall that carries this much weight, follow the adhesive maker's instructions and have a qualified contractor or engineer check the framing or base. Salt Bricks vs Salt Tiles: Same Face, Different Depth

Natural Salt Co. salt tiles share the 8 x 4 inch face but are 1 inch deep. So tiles and bricks cover the same area per piece, and the difference is depth, weight and price.

At the 50 pack, the brick works out a little lower per square foot than the tile, even though it is twice as deep. Larger tile packs (150 to 300) come to roughly $24 per sq ft, which is below the lowest loose brick pack. Two things the numbers show. First, the 70 pack has the lowest approx. price per brick among loose packs, at about $5.53, and the 100 pack costs a little more per brick, about $5.77. Bigger is not lower per brick here. Second, sauna kit prices include pink salt adhesive tubes, so their per-brick figure is not a like-for-like match with loose packs. How Many Bricks for Your Wall Size?

Use this formula for a flat layout: wall area in sq ft x 4.5, then add about 10% for cuts, breakage and color matching. The 10% figure is a planning range, not a store rule. Round up to a whole brick.

Each mix above is the lowest-cost combination of the listed loose packs and singles that we found for that brick count, using store prices on the check date. It does not include adhesive, shipping, framing, lighting or labor, which vary by location and project. The 4 x 6 ft row needs 119 bricks after rounding, so the 70 + 50 mix leaves one spare. Including the 10% allowance, these examples land at roughly $28 to $33 per sq ft, with the small wall highest because singles cost more per brick.

Custom Shapes and Cut Pieces

The store lists one brick size. Edges, corners, outlets and odd wall heights usually call for cut pieces, which is one reason for the 10% allowance. Which Salt Brick Format Fits Your Project?

• Small panel or test piece: singles or a pack of 20.
• Accent wall up to about 15 sq ft: a pack of 50 or 70, topped up with singles.
• Full wall: combine 70 and 50 packs; compare totals against the 100 pack for your count.
• Sauna build that needs adhesive too: compare a sauna kit with loose packs plus adhesive for your brick count.
• Lighter wall or backlit panel: consider 1 inch tiles instead of 2 inch salt bricks for walls.
