Salt Wall Project Timeline: From Order to Install

A salt wall project moves through eight phases: measure, confirm the wall, plan lighting, order, receive and inspect, dry lay, install, then cure and finish. Most of the calendar time comes from wall prep, lighting work and delivery, not from setting the salt. As a rough planning estimate, the hands-on install for a small panel is often about a day and a 6 x 8 ft wall about 1 to 3 days, plus adhesive cure time. This guide shows what happens in each phase, who sets each timing, and what the pink salt wall materials cost for two example walls.

Salt Wall Timeline at a Glance

The table below is a planning tool, not a schedule. The "planning range" column is a rough estimate based on common project steps; your contractor, electrician and delivery details decide the real dates.

Phase 1: Measure the Wall and Count Pieces

Everything else waits on the piece count, so this is the first step. Measure width and height in a few places, multiply to get square feet, subtract openings, then multiply by 4.5 pieces per sq ft. Add about 10% for cuts and breakage. Our step-by-step guide on how to measure a wall for a salt wall walks through a worked example, and the salt tile size guide covers piece dimensions.

Example: a 6 x 8 ft wall is 48 sq ft. 48 x 4.5 = 216 pieces, and 216 x 1.1 = 237.6, so plan on about 238 pieces.

Phase 2: Confirm the Wall, Backing and Weight

Salt is heavy, so the wall check comes before the order. Store data from the product pages: our 8 x 4 x 1 in pink salt tiles weigh about 2.9 lb each, and our 8 x 4 x 2 in pink salt bricks weigh about 5.5 lb each. For about 238 pieces that is roughly 690 lb in tiles or roughly 1,309 lb in bricks.

A contractor can confirm whether the wall, backing board and any base support can carry that load. Follow the adhesive maker's instructions and local building code. The salt wall planning guide lists the questions to ask before work starts.

Phase 3: Plan Lighting and Power Early

If the wall is backlit, the LED layout, driver location and wiring are usually planned and roughed in before any salt goes up, because access is harder later. Book a licensed electrician early, since their schedule can set the pace of the whole project. Our guide to LED lighting options for salt walls explains the main choices. Electrician time and LED costs vary by location and project, so get a local quote.

Phase 4: Order Salt Tiles, Bricks and Adhesive

With the count, the wall check and the lighting plan done, you can order. Tiles are 1 inch thick and lighter. If you prefer the deeper 2 inch profile, you can buy salt bricks in packs from 20 to 100. Browse salt wall tiles for packs from a single tile up to 300.

For adhesive, our pink salt adhesive 3-pack is listed for up to 120 salt bricks, which works out to about 40 bricks per tube. We use that as a planning figure for tiles too; check the product page for your project.

These figures use Natural Salt Co. store prices and the lowest pack mix we found for each count. Labor, backing, LED lighting, electrician time and shipping are not included.

The math: a 4 x 6 ft wall is 24 sq ft, so 24 x 4.5 = 108, plus 10% is about 119. Bricks come in packs of 20 or more, so 120 is the closest count from 70 + 50. Per piece, pink tiles run from about $5.99 single to about $5.33 in the 300-pack. Pink bricks run from about $6.60 single to about $5.53 in the 70-pack; the 100-pack works out to about $5.77 per brick, which is more per brick than the 50 or 70-pack.

Brick kit option for 6 x 8 ft: the sauna brick 200-pack with 6 adhesive tubes (approx. $1,240) plus a 30-pack (approx. $185) and 8 single bricks (approx. $53) comes to about $1,478 for 238 bricks and 6 tubes. That is about $26 less than the loose bricks plus adhesive route in the table.

Phase 5: Receive, Inspect and Store the Salt

Delivery options and timing are confirmed at checkout on naturalsaltco.us. If you have a fixed opening date or a commercial schedule, contact us for a project quote before you order so the delivery fits your plan. Our post on ordering salt tiles in the USA covers weight and what to expect.

When boxes arrive, we recommend opening them soon, checking piece counts and setting aside any damaged pieces. Store salt indoors in a dry space, off the floor if possible, until install day.

Phase 6: Dry Layout Before Install Day

A dry layout on the floor lets you sort pieces by color, plan where veining goes and mark cuts at the edges and around outlets. Doing it while the adhesive and tools are being gathered keeps install day focused on setting rows. Our salt brick wall planning checklist lists the tools and checks to confirm before you start.

Phase 7: Install Day

Install time depends on wall size, cuts, crew experience and whether lighting is part of the wall. As a rough planning estimate, a small 4 x 6 ft panel is often about a day for an experienced installer, and a 6 x 8 ft wall about 1 to 3 days. Treat these as planning ranges, not a quote, and ask your installer for their own estimate.

A level first row matters most, because every row above follows it. Our guide on how to install Himalayan salt tiles covers the steps, and the same order applies to most brick walls.

Phase 8: Cure, Connect Lights and Finish

The adhesive product page does not list a cure time, so follow the label on the tubes and your installer's guidance before adding trim, connecting lights or putting anything against the wall. Once the adhesive has cured, the electrician can finish any LED connections, and you can add trim and clean dust off the face with a dry cloth.

Ways to Keep the Project on Track

  • Finish the piece count before you ask for quotes, so every trade works from the same numbers.
  • Book the contractor and electrician before you set a delivery date.
  • Order the 10% allowance with the main order rather than adding pieces later.
  • Do the dry layout while you wait for other trades.
  • Leave the full cure time in the schedule instead of rushing the finish.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a salt wall project take from order to install?

It depends on delivery, wall prep, lighting work and wall size. Delivery options are confirmed at checkout on naturalsaltco.us. As a rough planning estimate, the hands-on install for a small panel is often about a day and a 6 x 8 ft wall about 1 to 3 days, plus cure time from the adhesive label. Ask for a project quote if you have a fixed opening date.

What should I do before I order salt bricks or tiles?

Measure the wall, multiply square feet by 4.5 and add about 10% for cuts. Confirm the wall can carry the weight with a contractor, and plan any LED wiring with a licensed electrician before you set a delivery date.

How many pieces does a 6 x 8 ft salt wall need?

A 6 x 8 ft wall is 48 sq ft. At 4.5 pieces per sq ft that is 216 pieces, or about 238 with a 10% allowance.

How much do the materials cost for a 6 x 8 ft salt wall?

At prices checked October 24, 2026, about 238 pink salt tiles cost approx. $1,293 and about 238 pink salt bricks cost approx. $1,344. Adding six adhesive tubes (two 3-packs, approx. $160) brings the totals to about $1,453 for tiles and about $1,504 for bricks.

How long does salt adhesive take to cure?

The Natural Salt Co. adhesive page does not list a cure time, so follow the instructions on the product label and the installer's guidance before adding weight, lights or trim.

Should I install the LED lighting before or after the salt?

Backlighting and power are usually planned and roughed in before the salt goes up, because access is harder later. A licensed electrician can advise on the right order for your wall and local code.

Can I speed up a salt wall project?

Measuring early, confirming the wall and lighting plan before ordering, and doing a dry layout while you wait for delivery can keep the steps from stacking up. Rushing the adhesive cure is not recommended.
