Salt Brick vs Salt Tile Cost Compared: Per Piece, Per Sq Ft and by Wall Size

At Natural Salt Co. store prices checked October 29, 2026, pink salt bricks and pink salt tiles cost almost the same for most wall sizes. In our example walls up to 64 sq ft, the lowest pack mixes land within about $1 to $10 of each other, at roughly $27 to $29 per sq ft. On larger walls of 80 to 96 sq ft, bricks came out about $75 to $109 lower in our examples, because the 400-brick pack works out to about $5.00 per brick versus about $5.27 per tile in the 400-tile pack. Tiles are lower per piece in small packs, and the tile versions of our wall kits are about $10 to $100 below the brick versions.
Below are the per-piece math, five wall sizes priced both ways, adhesive, kits and the costs that sit outside the salt itself.
Salt Brick vs Salt Tile: What You Are Comparing
Both products share the same 8 x 4 inch face, so the piece count per wall is the same. The difference is depth and weight.
- Salt bricks: 8 x 4 x 2 inches, about 5.5 lb each per our product listings.
- Salt tiles: 8 x 4 x 1 inches, about 2.9 lb each per the 100-pack product page (some smaller tile listings show a lower figure, so check the product page for your pack).
- Coverage: one 8 x 4 inch face covers 32 sq in, so 144 / 32 = 4.5 pieces per sq ft for both. Our 100-pack pages list 22.22 sq ft per 100 pieces, which matches.
If you are still choosing between the two on looks, glow and wall load, our guide to salt tiles vs salt bricks and our salt tile thickness comparison cover that side. This article focuses on cost.

What the per-piece numbers show
- Small packs favor tiles. From single pieces up to the 30-pack, tiles run about $0.33 to $0.66 less per piece than bricks.
- Several mid and large packs favor bricks. The 50, 70, 200, 300, 400 and 1000 brick packs are lower per piece than the matching tile packs. The 400-pack gap is the largest, at about $0.27 per piece.
- Some packs are a near tie. At 100 and 150 pieces, tiles are a few cents lower per piece. At 500 pieces, both work out to about $5.00 each.
- A bigger pack is not automatically lower per piece. The 100-brick pack (about $5.77 per brick) costs more per brick than the 70-pack (about $5.53) and the 50-pack (about $5.74). That is why we price walls by the full pack mix, not by a single pack.

Salt Brick vs Salt Tile Cost by Wall Size
For each wall we took the area, multiplied by 4.5 pieces per sq ft, added 10% for cuts and breakage and rounded up. Then we searched every combination of listed pack sizes for the lowest total that covers that count. The mix shown is the lowest-cost combination we found from the listed packs at today's prices.
| Wall size | Pieces (incl. 10%) | Brick pack mix | Approx. cost in bricks | Tile pack mix | Approx. cost in tiles | Approx. difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 3 ft (12 sq ft) | 60 | 50 + 4 + 4 + 2 | $350 (about $29.16/sq ft) | 50 + 10 | $349 (about $29.07/sq ft) | Bricks about $1 more |
| 4 x 6 ft (24 sq ft) | 119 | 70 + 50 (120 bricks) | $674 (about $28.08/sq ft) | 100 + 10 + 4 + 4 + 1 | $684 (about $28.50/sq ft) | Bricks about $10 less |
| 8 x 8 ft (64 sq ft) | 317 | 300 + four 4-packs + 1 | $1,702 (about $26.59/sq ft) | 300 + 10 + 4 + 2 + 1 | $1,700 (about $26.57/sq ft) | Bricks about $1 more |
| 10 x 8 ft (80 sq ft) | 396 | 400 | $2,000 (about $25.00/sq ft) | 400 | $2,109 (about $26.36/sq ft) | Bricks about $109 less |
| 12 x 8 ft (96 sq ft) | 476 | 400 + 70 + 4 + 2 | $2,425 (about $25.26/sq ft) | 500 (24 spare) | $2,500 (about $26.04/sq ft) | Bricks about $75 less |
Prices checked October 29, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price. Per sq ft figures divide the order total by the wall area, so they include the 10% allowance.
The takeaway: on small and mid-size walls the material you pick barely moves the salt budget. On walls near 80 to 100 sq ft, the 400-brick pack pulls bricks ahead in these examples. Your exact gap depends on your piece count, so run your own numbers with our salt wall cost calculator guide or the salt tile size guide.
Adhesive Cost Is the Same Either Way
Our 3-tube adhesive pack page lists coverage of up to 120 salt bricks, which works out to about 40 pieces per tube. We use that as a planning estimate for tiles too, since both share the same 8 x 4 inch face; follow the adhesive maker's instructions for your surface. Because the piece count is the same for bricks and tiles, the adhesive line does not change the comparison.
| Wall size | Tubes (planning estimate) | Example pack mix | Approx. adhesive cost | Approx. total with bricks | Approx. total with tiles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 3 ft | 2 | One 2-pack | $54 | $404 | $403 |
| 4 x 6 ft | 3 | One 3-pack | $80 | $754 | $764 |
| 8 x 8 ft | 8 | Two 3-packs + one 2-pack | $214 | $1,916 | $1,914 |
| 10 x 8 ft | 10 | Two 3-packs + two 2-packs | $268 | $2,268 | $2,377 |
| 12 x 8 ft | 12 | Four 3-packs | $320 | $2,745 | $2,820 |
Prices checked October 29, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price. You can compare tube packs in our pink salt adhesive range. In our pricing, the 3-pack (about $26.66 per tube) came in lower per tube than the 10-pack (about $28.10) and the 15-pack (about $27.33).

Costs Outside the Salt: Where Bricks and Tiles Can Differ
The salt price is one part of the budget. These items are typical US estimates, not Natural Salt Co. prices, and they vary by location and project.
Weight, backing and framing
At about 5.5 lb per brick and 4.5 per sq ft, bricks add roughly 24.75 lb of salt per sq ft. Tiles at about 2.9 lb add roughly 13.05 lb per sq ft. For a 4 x 6 ft wall with 119 pieces, that is about 655 lb in bricks versus about 345 lb in tiles. A heavier wall may need a stronger backing, a base ledge or extra framing, which can add cost. Have a contractor or structural professional confirm what your wall and floor can support.
Shipping
Freight quotes often depend on weight and destination, so the lighter tile order may cost less to ship. We do not publish shipping rates here; request a quote for your ZIP code.
Labor, lighting and electrical
Our salt brick wall labor cost guide uses an example planning range of roughly $10 to $20 per sq ft for hired installation. Labor, LED strips and electrician work are priced locally, so get quotes from qualified installers and a licensed electrician for any backlighting.
Which Is Lower Cost for Your Project?
- Small panel or accent wall under about 25 sq ft: the loose salt cost is close either way. If you want a kit with LEDs and adhesive, the tile version is lower.
- Mid-size wall around 25 to 65 sq ft: the gap was about $1 to $15 in our checks, and it can go either way. A 6 x 6 ft wall (179 pieces) priced at about $995 in bricks versus about $980 in tiles, while the 8 x 8 ft wall above was about $1 apart. Choose on look, depth and wall load.
- Larger wall around 80 to 100 sq ft: bricks came out about $75 to $109 lower in our examples because of the 400-brick pack. Weigh that against the extra weight and any added framing or freight.

Frequently asked questions
Do salt bricks or salt tiles cost less per square foot?
It depends on the pack. At Natural Salt Co. prices checked October 29, 2026, tiles are lower per piece in packs of 1 to 30, while the 50, 70, 200, 300, 400 and 1000 brick packs are lower per piece than the matching tile packs. At 500 pieces both are about $5.00 each, or about $22.50 per sq ft.
How much does a 4 x 6 ft salt wall cost in bricks vs tiles?
With 119 pieces (including 10% extra), the lowest pack mix we found is approx. $674 in bricks (70 + 50 packs) and approx. $684 in tiles. Adding about 3 tubes of adhesive at approx. $80 brings the totals to about $754 and $764.
Why do bricks come out lower on large walls?
The 400-brick pack works out to about $5.00 per brick, while the 400-tile pack is about $5.27 per tile. For a 10 x 8 ft wall (396 pieces) that is approx. $2,000 in bricks vs approx. $2,109 in tiles.

In our pink salt wall kits with LED lights and adhesive, the tile version was lower at every size we checked, by about $10 (2 x 2 ft) up to about $100 (5 x 8 ft). See each kit page for exact contents and current prices.
Does adhesive cost change between bricks and tiles?
Not in our planning. The adhesive 3-pack page lists coverage of up to 120 salt bricks, about 40 pieces per tube, and both products share the same 8 x 4 inch face, so the tube count is the same. Follow the adhesive maker's instructions for your surface.
What other costs differ between salt bricks and salt tiles?
Weight is the main one. Bricks add about 24.75 lb of salt per sq ft and tiles about 13.05 lb, so a brick wall may need stronger backing or framing and may cost more to ship. Labor, LEDs and electrical work are local estimates; get quotes from qualified professionals.
