Salt Wall Cost Calculator: How to Estimate Your Project

By Natural Salt Co.

To estimate a salt wall, multiply the net wall area in square feet by 4.5 pieces, add about 10% for cuts and breakage, then price that count with the lowest-cost pack mix and add adhesive. At Natural Salt Co. prices checked October 28, 2026, pink salt for our three example walls comes to approx. $26.57 to $28.50 per sq ft, for example about $754 in bricks and adhesive for a 4 x 6 ft panel. Labor, lighting and delivery are separate lines you price locally.

The Salt Wall Cost Formula in 5 Steps

  1. Net area: wall width x height in feet, minus doors, windows and outlets you are not covering.
  2. Pieces: net sq ft x 4.5, then x 1.10 for a 10% allowance. Round up.
  3. Salt cost: price that count with the pack mix that costs least (not always the biggest pack).
  4. Adhesive: pieces divided by 40 gives a minimum tube count for bricks. Round up.
  5. Extras: add your local quotes for labor, framing, LED lighting, an electrician and delivery.

Our Himalayan salt wall materials page groups the salt products for a full build, and the steps below explain each line.

Step 1: Measure the Net Wall Area

Measure width and height in a few places and use the largest numbers. Multiply them for gross square feet, then subtract any openings. A 12 x 8 ft wall with a 3 x 7 ft door is 96 minus 21, or 75 sq ft net. Our guide on how to measure a wall for a salt wall covers uneven walls and corners.

Step 2: Convert Square Feet to Bricks or Tiles

Natural Salt Co. pink salt bricks (8 x 4 x 2 in) and tiles (8 x 4 x 1 in) each cover 32 sq in of face, so 144 divided by 32 gives 4.5 pieces per sq ft. Our product pages list 100 pieces as about 22.22 sq ft, which matches. We recommend adding about 10% for cuts, breakage and color blending. Walls with many cuts or openings may need more.

  • 4 x 6 ft panel: 24 x 4.5 = 108, x 1.10 = 118.8, order 119 pieces
  • 8 x 8 ft wall: 64 x 4.5 = 288, x 1.10 = 316.8, order 317 pieces
  • 12 x 8 ft wall with a door: 75 x 4.5 = 337.5, x 1.10 = 371.25, order 372 pieces

Step 3: Price the Pieces by Pack

Store data below is from our live product listings. Approx. per sq ft is the per-piece price x 4.5, before the 10% allowance.

Prices checked October 28, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.

Two things stand out. The 100-pack costs more per piece than the 70-pack for both bricks and tiles, and the 300-brick pack costs slightly more per brick than the 200-pack. So price a few combinations before you order. Browse salt bricks for walls or pink salt tiles for every pack size, and see our salt brick cost per square foot guide for more pack math.

Step 4: Add Adhesive

Our pink salt adhesive 3-tube pack is listed as bonding up to 120 salt bricks, which works out to up to 40 bricks per tube. Treat that as a minimum count, not a target: some tile product pages suggest more tubes for the same number of pieces, so check the page for the product you choose. The 3-pack is approx. $80 (about $26.66 per tube), and the 2-pack is approx. $54 (about $27.00 per tube).

Step 5: Add Labor, Lighting and Delivery

These are not Natural Salt Co. prices. They are typical US estimates that vary by location, wall type and project size:

  • Labor: our salt wall labor cost guide uses an example planning range of roughly $10 to $20 per sq ft for hired installation. Ask local installers for a written quote.
  • Framing or backer: a brick weighs about 5.5 lb per our product page, so 317 bricks is roughly 1,744 lb. A contractor can confirm whether your wall or floor needs added support.
  • LED lighting and electrician: costs depend on strip length, drivers and local code. A licensed electrician can price the wiring. Our backlit salt tile wall cost guide covers this in more detail.
  • Delivery: larger packs ship by freight, per our product pages. Check the shipping total at checkout or in your quote.

Salt per net sq ft works out to approx. $28.08 (bricks) and $28.50 (tiles) for the 4 x 6 ft panel, about $26.59 and $26.57 for the 8 x 8 ft wall, and about $26.60 and $26.80 for the 12 x 8 ft wall. Salt plus minimum adhesive comes to approx. $754 to $764, $1,914 to $1,916 and $2,263 to $2,278. Small walls cost more per sq ft because they cannot use the larger, lower-priced packs.

Tips for a More Accurate Estimate

  • Choose bricks or tiles first. In our examples the salt cost is close, but bricks are twice as thick (2 in vs 1 in) and heavier, which can change framing and trim. See our salt tile size guide for tile dimensions.
  • Test a few pack mixes near your count. A few extra pieces in a lower-priced pack can cost less than an exact count.
  • Order from one batch where you can, so color stays consistent.
  • Plan lighting before you order, since backlit walls may need a frame and access panel.
  • Use our salt wall planning guide to check the wall, room and timeline.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a salt wall cost per square foot?

In Natural Salt Co. pink salt, the salt alone runs from approx. $21.82 per sq ft (1,000-brick pack) to approx. $29.70 per sq ft (single bricks) before any allowance. With a 10% allowance, our three example walls come to approx. $26.57 to $28.50 per sq ft. Adhesive, labor, lighting and delivery are extra. Prices checked October 28, 2026.

How many salt bricks or tiles do I need per square foot?

Our 8 x 4 in bricks and tiles each cover 32 sq in, so plan on 4.5 pieces per sq ft. Multiply your net wall area by 4.5, then add about 10% for cuts and breakage and round up.

How much adhesive does a salt wall need?

Our 3-tube adhesive pack is listed as bonding up to 120 salt bricks, or up to 40 bricks per tube. Use pieces divided by 40 as a minimum tube count. Some tile product pages suggest more tubes, so check the page for your product and follow the manufacturer's directions.

Do larger packs cost less per piece?

Not in every case. At prices checked October 28, 2026, the 100-brick pack is about $5.77 per brick, more than the 70-pack at about $5.53. The 300-brick pack is about $5.32 per brick, slightly more than the 200-pack at about $5.30. Compare a few pack mixes before you order.

Does the estimate include installation?

No. The calculator prices salt and adhesive from our store. Labor, framing, LED lighting, an electrician and delivery are separate. Our labor guide uses an example planning range of roughly $10 to $20 per sq ft for hired installation, and local quotes can differ.

Do salt bricks or salt tiles cost more for a wall?

In our examples the salt cost is close: an 8 x 8 ft wall is approx. $1,702 in bricks and about $1,700 in tiles. Bricks are 2 in thick and about 5.5 lb each, so they can need more support and trim depth than 1 in tiles.
