Salt Walls for Event Venues and Lounges: Placement, Sizing and Cost

By Natural Salt Co.

A salt wall fits an event venue or lounge most naturally in dry, low-contact spots where guests look at it rather than lean on it: the entry or check-in wall, a photo backdrop, the wall behind a lounge seating group, or a stage backdrop behind a head table. In Natural Salt Co. pink salt, the salt for an example 8 x 8 ft photo wall costs approx. $1,700 (about $26.60 per sq ft), or roughly $1,915 with adhesive. Labor, framing, lighting and electrical work are extra and vary by project.

Where a Salt Wall Works in an Event Venue

Event spaces change layout from one booking to the next, so a permanent feature wall earns its place when it stays useful under every setup. These zones tend to fit that test:

  • Entry or check-in wall. Guests see it first, and it sits behind a desk or table instead of in a walkway. A 6 x 4 ft panel is a common starting size.
  • Photo backdrop wall. A lit salt wall gives guests a warm, textured background for photos at weddings, galas and corporate events. An 8 x 8 ft wall covers a small group shot.
  • VIP or private lounge wall. Behind banquettes or lounge seating, a 12 x 8 ft wall can define the room without extra decor.
  • Stage or head table backdrop. A larger wall, such as 16 x 10 ft, frames speeches, first dances and presentations. Plan the lighting so it does not fight with stage lights.
  • Back-bar wall in a lounge. This can work when the wall sits away from sinks, ice wells and splash zones. Our guide to salt brick bar and lounge walls covers that setup in detail.

Where to Skip a Salt Wall

Salt is a natural stone-like material that can be scuffed, chipped or affected by moisture. In a busy venue, it is usually wiser to keep it out of these areas:

  • Catering corridors, service doors and any path where carts, rental tables or staging gear pass close to the wall.
  • Wet zones: dish areas, bar sinks, ice wells, restrooms and spots near beverage stations where spills are likely.
  • Uncovered patios or rooftop areas exposed to rain or high humidity.
  • Tight dance floor edges where guests may lean or bump into the wall.

If a high-traffic spot is the one available option, a planter line, low ledge, rope stanchions or a short setback can help keep guests and equipment a step away from the surface.

Bricks or Tiles for an Event Space

Both products have 8 x 4 inch faces, so they lay out at the same piece count. Here is how they compare using Natural Salt Co. store data:

Bricks add depth and a chunkier joint pattern, which reads well on a large stage or lounge wall. Tiles are half the thickness, which can help when wall depth or load is a concern, and they suit framed or backlit salt tiles panels. Browse Himalayan salt bricks if you want the thicker look. The salt wall collection currently lists white Himalayan salt tile packs as well, for venues that want a lighter color.

How Many Pieces and What the Salt Costs

The math is the same for every wall:

  1. Wall width x height = square feet.
  2. Square feet x 4.5 = pieces (100 tiles cover about 22.22 sq ft per store data, which is 4.5 per sq ft).
  3. Add about 10% for cuts and breakage, then round up.
  4. Find the lowest-cost mix of packs for that count.

We priced four example venue walls at current store prices. Each cost is the lowest-cost pack mix we found for at least the pieces needed.

Two pack notes from the current prices: the 100-brick pack (about $5.77 per brick) costs more per brick than the 70-brick pack (about $5.53), so mixing smaller packs can come out lower. For the 12 x 8 ft wall, one 500-tile pack costs less than any mix that lands exactly on 476 tiles, so the extra tiles serve as spares.

Adhesive for Each Example Wall

The pink salt adhesive 3-pack product page lists coverage of up to 120 salt bricks, which works out to about 40 pieces per tube. We used that as a planning minimum. Your installer may want extra tubes on hand.

Costs Outside the Salt

These items are not Natural Salt Co. products, and their prices vary by location, venue type and project scope, so we do not list figures for them. Get local quotes for:

  • Installation labor from a contractor or tile setter with salt wall experience.
  • Framing and backing, especially for brick walls, since about 24.75 lb per sq ft of brick adds real load. A structural professional can confirm what the wall can carry.
  • LED backlighting and dimming sized for your wall. Our LED lighting options guide compares the main methods.
  • Electrical work by a licensed electrician, plus any permits or inspections your local code requires for a commercial space.
  • Shipping, which depends on weight and delivery location.

Lighting and Upkeep Tips for Events

  • Dimmable warm white lighting can keep the wall glowing during a dinner and bright enough for photos during a reception. Ask your electrician about dimmer compatibility.
  • Keep signage off the salt. Easels or stands in front of the wall let you change event branding without fixing anything to the surface.
  • Plan access to drivers and wiring so lighting can be checked between events without removing pieces.
  • Clean gently. A dry or barely damp cloth is a common approach; follow the care notes on the product page and your installer's advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a salt wall cost for an event venue?

For pink salt from Natural Salt Co., the salt runs approx. $25 to $28.50 per sq ft in our examples: about $674 to $684 for a 6 x 4 ft entry wall and about $4,000 to $4,100 for a 16 x 10 ft stage backdrop. Adhesive, labor, framing, lighting and electrical work are extra. Prices checked October 30, 2026.

How many salt bricks or tiles do I need for an 8 x 8 ft photo wall?

An 8 x 8 ft wall is 64 sq ft. At 4.5 pieces per sq ft that is 288 pieces, or 317 with about 10% added for cuts and breakage.

Where should a salt wall go in a lounge or event space?

Dry, low-contact spots tend to work well: an entry or check-in wall, a photo backdrop, the wall behind lounge seating or a stage backdrop. It is usually wiser to skip catering paths, wet bar zones, uncovered patios and dance floor edges.

Should an event venue use salt bricks or salt tiles?

Bricks are 2 inches thick and about 5.5 lb each per store data, giving more depth. Tiles are 1 inch thick and lighter, which can help when wall depth or load is limited. Both lay out at 4.5 pieces per sq ft.

How much adhesive does a venue salt wall need?

The 3-pack adhesive product page lists coverage of up to 120 salt bricks, about 40 pieces per tube. As a planning minimum, an 8 x 8 ft wall with 317 pieces needs about 8 tubes, approx. $214. Your installer may want extra on hand.

Can a salt wall be backlit for evening events?

Yes, a salt wall can be backlit with LED lighting. Plan the lighting method, dimming and driver access with a licensed electrician before installation, and follow local code for commercial spaces.
