Salt Brick Walls for Offices and Lobbies: Placement, Sizing and Cost

A salt brick office wall tends to work well as one planned feature: a reception backdrop, an elevator lobby wall or a conference room end wall, kept away from doors, water and heavy traffic. At current store prices, pink salt bricks for a lobby or office wall run approx. $24 to $28 per sq ft in bricks, or roughly $28 to $31 per sq ft with adhesive, based on the four example walls below.
This guide covers where a salt brick wall fits in an office or lobby, where to skip it, what to confirm with your building team, how many bricks to order and what the materials cost.
Where a Salt Brick Wall Fits in an Office or Lobby
Natural Salt Co. salt bricks for walls are 8 x 4 x 2 inch blocks of 98%+ pure pink Himalayan salt. In a workplace, they tend to look strongest where visitors stop and look, not where people rush past.
- Behind the reception desk. The first wall guests face. A backlit salt brick wall gives a warm glow behind the desk and frames the space without extra decor.
- Reception desk front. A smaller panel on the visitor side of the desk, useful when the wall behind it is glass or already branded.
- Elevator or hotel lobby wall. A wide feature wall that people see while they wait.
- Conference room end wall. One accent wall opposite the screen, so it sits behind the host on video calls rather than glaring into the camera.
- Waiting and lounge areas. A calm backdrop behind seating, like the lobby view shown here.

Where to Skip Salt Bricks
- Next to entry doors. Rain, snow and wet umbrellas bring moisture, and salt does not like staying damp.
- Near restrooms, kitchenettes, coffee bars or water features. Splashes and steam can mark the surface.
- Narrow, busy corridors. Carts, bags and chairs can chip edges at hip height.
- Exterior walls with known condensation. Check for moisture first, or choose an interior wall.
If a wall sits in a busy spot, a common approach is to start the salt above a solid base or wainscot, so the lower edge stays out of reach of bumps.
What to Confirm Before You Order
Commercial interiors usually involve more people than a home project. These checks help avoid surprises:
- Building and landlord approval. Office leases and hotel brand standards may require sign-off for wall finishes and added weight.
- Wall structure and load. Each brick weighs about 5.5 lb (store data), and at 4.5 bricks per sq ft that is about 24.75 lb of salt per sq ft before adhesive. A structural engineer or experienced contractor can confirm the wall and floor can carry it. Our salt brick wall weight guide shows the math.
- Codes for interior finishes. Commercial spaces may have local fire and building code rules for wall finishes, exits and lighting. Ask your contractor, architect or local code official what applies to your space.
- Lighting and power. Backlighting needs depth behind the bricks and a power source. Have a licensed electrician plan and install any wiring.
- Signage. If a logo goes on the wall, one common approach is standoff mounts anchored into the framing behind the salt rather than into the bricks. Confirm the method with your installer.
- Adhesive. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for surface prep and cure time. Our pink salt adhesive 3-pack page lists coverage of up to 120 salt bricks across 3 tubes.
For a lobby project with several stakeholders, our commercial salt wall planning guide covers take-off and quoting in more detail.
How Many Salt Bricks for an Office Wall
One 8 x 4 inch brick face covers 32 sq in, so a square foot (144 sq in) takes 4.5 bricks laid flat. This matches the store's 100-pack coverage of 22.22 sq ft. Add about 10% for cuts, edges and spares.
Formula: wall width x height = sq ft, then sq ft x 4.5 x 1.1 = bricks to order (round up).
| Example wall | Size | Area | Bricks (4.5/sq ft) | With 10% extra | Approx. salt weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reception desk front | 8 x 3 ft | 24 sq ft | 108 | 119 | about 594 lb |
| Wall behind reception | 10 x 8 ft | 80 sq ft | 360 | 396 | about 1,980 lb |
| Elevator lobby wall | 12 x 9 ft | 108 sq ft | 486 | 535 | about 2,673 lb |
| Large lobby feature wall | 20 x 10 ft | 200 sq ft | 900 | 990 | about 4,950 lb |
Weights use the installed brick count (before the 10% extra) at about 5.5 lb per brick. These are planning examples; measure your own wall and subtract doors or openings.

Salt Brick Pack Prices and Cost per Sq Ft

Larger packs do not automatically cost less per brick. The 100-pack costs more per brick than the 70-pack, and the 300-pack costs slightly more per brick than the 200-pack. Pricing the pack mix for your exact count is worth a few minutes. When you are ready, you can buy salt bricks in packs from 1 to 1,000.
Cost Breakdown for Four Office and Lobby Walls
Each row uses the lowest-priced pack mix we found that covers the brick count with 10% extra. Adhesive assumes one tube per 40 bricks, based on the 3-pack's "up to 120 salt bricks" coverage; your installer may use more.
| Example wall | Bricks | Example pack mix | Approx. brick cost | Adhesive tubes | Approx. adhesive cost | Approx. materials total | Approx. per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desk front 8 x 3 ft | 119 | 70 + 50 (120 bricks) | $674 | 3 | $80 (one 3-pack) | $754 | $31.42 |
| Reception 10 x 8 ft | 396 | 400-pack | $2,000 | 10 | $268 (3 + 3 + 2 + 2 packs) | $2,268 | $28.35 |
| Elevator lobby 12 x 9 ft | 535 | 500 + 30 + 4 + 1 | $2,717 | 14 | $374 (four 3-packs + one 2-pack) | $3,091 | $28.62 |
| Large lobby 20 x 10 ft | 990 | 1,000-pack | $4,849 | 25 | $668 (seven 3-packs + two 2-packs) | $5,517 | $27.58 |
Prices checked October 30, 2026. All prices are approximate and can change; see the product page for the current price.
Two notes on the math. For 10 tubes, three 3-packs would leave you one short, and the 10-pack lists at approx. $281, so 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 packs at approx. $268 came out lower at today's prices. On the 20 x 10 ft wall, the 1,000-pack at approx. $4.85 per brick was the lowest-priced way to cover 990 bricks.
Costs outside the salt
These are typical US estimates, not Natural Salt Co. prices, and they vary by location, building and project:
- Installation labor. Our salt brick wall labor guide uses an example range of roughly $10 to $20 per sq ft for hired installation. Commercial jobs with after-hours work, permits or union labor may land higher.
- Framing or backing. Depends on whether the existing wall can carry the load. Get a contractor quote.
- LED lighting and electrician. Depends on the fixture, wiring run and local rates. Get a licensed electrician's quote.
- Freight. A 1,000-brick order is about 5,500 lb of salt. Confirm delivery access, loading dock hours and liftgate needs with building management.
Bricks or Tiles for a Lobby?
Bricks are 2 inches deep and give a solid, block-built look. If the wall cannot take about 24.75 lb per sq ft, pink salt tiles share the same 8 x 4 inch face at 1 inch thick and add less weight. Tiles also suit the reception walls covered in our salt tiles for office reception walls guide. For a full view of options, browse our salt wall materials.
Care in a Busy Workplace
- Dust with a dry microfiber cloth weekly or as needed, as the product page suggests.
- Keep cleaning crews from spraying liquid cleaners on the salt. A short note in the janitorial schedule helps.
- Dry any spill right away and keep the space at normal indoor humidity.
- Keep a few spare bricks from your 10% allowance for chipped pieces.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a salt brick wall cost for an office lobby?
In our examples, pink salt bricks cost approx. $24 to $28 per sq ft, and about $28 to $31 per sq ft with adhesive. A 10 x 8 ft reception wall is approx. $2,268 in bricks and adhesive. Labor, framing, lighting and freight are extra and vary by location. Prices checked October 30, 2026.
How many salt bricks do I need for a 10 x 8 ft reception wall?
80 sq ft x 4.5 bricks per sq ft = 360 bricks. With about 10% extra for cuts and spares, plan on 396 bricks. A 400-pack covers it.
How heavy is a salt brick lobby wall?
Each brick weighs about 5.5 lb per the store listing, so the salt adds about 24.75 lb per sq ft before adhesive. A 12 x 9 ft wall carries about 2,673 lb of salt. Have a structural engineer or experienced contractor confirm the wall and floor can support it.
Can I mount a company logo on a salt brick wall?
One common approach is standoff mounts anchored into the framing behind the salt rather than into the bricks. Confirm the method with your installer before ordering, so brick cuts can be planned.
Where should I avoid a salt brick wall in an office?
Skip spots next to entry doors, restrooms, kitchenettes, coffee bars and water features, and narrow corridors where carts and bags can chip the edges.
Do I need building approval for a salt wall in a commercial space?
Often, yes. Leases, hotel brand standards and local codes may cover wall finishes, added weight and electrical work. Check with your landlord, contractor or local code official before you order.
Should I use salt bricks or salt tiles in a lobby?
Bricks are 2 inches deep with a solid look; tiles have the same 8 x 4 inch face at 1 inch thick and add less weight. If the wall has a load limit, tiles may be the easier fit.
